Know Your Sickle Cell Trait Percentage

Sickle Cell Trait (SCT) isn’t just a yes-or-no test; the percentage of HbS in your blood can influence your health risks and life choices. Knowing your hemoglobin breakdown (HbA, HbS, HbF, HbA2) helps you understand how your body responds to stress, exercise, dehydration, or high altitudes, and identifies potential risks like blood clots or kidney issues.

It’s also essential for family planning: two carriers with higher HbS percentages may have a greater chance of having a child with sickle cell disease.

By knowing your numbers, you gain personalized insight, empowering safer lifestyle decisions and informed reproductive choices.

Don’t forget our cousins: Thalassemia, C, D, E, O’Arab, Monroe and hundreds of others that are inherited genes when passed with S a child can be born with a type of Sickle Cell Disease.
